That’s right. I said it. What’s the ROI of your mom?

What’s the ROI of your business cards?

What’s the ROI of the sign outside your office?

What’s the ROI of those pens you got printed with your logo?

What’s the ROI of the clothes you’re wearing to make a great first impression?

What’s the ROI? Period.

Some things you just can’t quantify

I’m a business guy to the core. I care about numbers just like you do.

However, I also have enough experience to know that most of what we do in business can’t be quantified. It just can’t. Yet, it’s incredibly valuable.

What’s the numerical value of me getting back to a client on the weekend?

No idea. However, I know it’s one of many factors that wows people. It’s part of the overall experience working with us. So, I do it…and always will.

What’s the numerical value of me sending these emails?

I don’t know. And, guess what. I don’t care.

Over the years, I’ve received thousands of replies from folks like you. I know people find value in them and I enjoy sharing what’s in my head. So, I send them.

How much business does our website generate exactly?

It’s impossible to know. Sure, we can see traffic and play the SEO game, but there’s so much more to an effective website than that. I know it’s making a great first impression, explains what we do and gets people moving in the right direction.

Some people fill out a form, chat with us or schedule a demo. Most don’t, though. We may see them at a conference, on a webinar or get introduced via a partner. Is our website important in this process? Absolutely! Can I quantify it? Nope.

And, we don’t just sit back waiting for good stuff to happen. We proactively use our website every single day. It’s a powerful tool. We reference resources, chat with prospects and link to it from email, social media and other marketing.

Are you using your website like that? You should.

Value is cumulative and comprehensive

If we only did stuff we can precisely quantify, we’d be out of business. It just doesn’t work that like. I can’t quantify everything. Neither can you.

More importantly, I inherently know we’re doing the right stuff to be relevant today, tomorrow, next week, next month, next year and next decade.

So, while I can’t give you a spreadsheet showing ROI for every single thing we do, I know we’re growing at 80% YoY while maintaining a 9.9 out of 10 rating.

From little things to big things, the total return is both immeasurable and immense.

Just like the ROI of my mom.
