“Get In. You’ll Figure It Out.”

Get in. You'll figure it out.

Monday is Memorial Day. It’s a day to remember the people who have died while serving in our country’s armed forces.

My Pap served in WWII. Fortunately, he made it back alive, had some kids, and lived a full life. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be here.

A few weeks ago, my grandma (aka Mimi) fell down 14 steps and fractured her back. After living in the same home on the South Side of Pittsburgh for 88 years, we had no other option but to move her into an assisted living facility.

When my dad and I cleaned out her house, we came across some amazing things. We found thousands of family photos, old report cards, and other decades-old heirlooms. We even found an old Ansco Rediflex camera…with flash bulbs!

We also found stacks of WWII memorabilia Pap brought back from the war.

I love this stuff. Some of it’s in my office. Here’s a picture.

Let me tell you a story…

Growing up, I remember Pap telling us one of his favorite stories from WWII.

When he arrived in Japan, his first assignment was to drive a truck. The only problem was he didn’t know how to drive…and especially didn’t know how to drive a big truck with a double clutch manual transmission.

His supervisor didn’t seem to care. He said,

“Get in. You’ll figure it out.”

And he did. It wasn’t pretty, but after a few days and plenty of stalls, he was zipping around camp like a pro.

Gone, but not forgotten.

Pap hasn’t been with us for many years now, but I’ll never forget him, his service to our country, and the stories he brought back.

A sincere thanks to him and the thousands of men and women who have served.

In life, and in business, nothing is ever certain.

But we’ll figure it out.

Here are a few of the photos from WWII we found…with Pap’s legendary truck.
